Tata Hexa Car Insurance
Tata Hexa Car Insurance
The Tata Hexa was introduced in India in January 2017 and discontinued in 2020, but it still finds a place in the used-SUV market. Today, it appeals to families and highway travellers looking for a spacious 6- or 7-seater with a powerful diesel engine and comfortable long-distance performance.
Regular city use, highway trips and rough roads can expose an older Hexa to bumper, tyre, alloy and underbody damage. Finding certain parts can also become challenging as the vehicle ages. A comprehensive Tata Hexa insurance policy can help manage these unexpected costs.
TATA AIG's 6300+ cashless garages, including Tata Motors authorised service centres, make repairs much easier.
How to Buy & Renew Tata Hexa Car Insurance Online
How to Buy
Head to the top of this webpage, type in your Tata Hexa registration number and hit 'Get Price'.
Fill in your personal and vehicle details to generate a quote. Be precise about your variant, as the XT 4x4 and automatic XTA are valued higher than the XE and XM, which changes your IDV.
Go through the coverage options on offer and pick the add-ons that suit how you drive your Hexa. For a 2.2-litre 7-seater that spends time on highways and rough patches, Zero Depreciation and Roadside Assistance are essential.
Confirm the Tata Hexa insurance premium displayed, then pay for Hexa insurance online to activate your policy right away.
If you are more comfortable using your phone, the TATA AIG mobile app lets you complete the same purchase under the 'Buy Policy' option.
A discontinued model is still insurable. Most Tata Hexas on the road today are old and second-hand, and the process works the same way for a pre-owned unit.
How to Renew
Go to the top of this webpage and choose 'Renew your existing TATA AIG car policy'.
Pull up your details using either your Tata Hexa's registration number or your current policy number.
Check the renewal premium quoted for your Hexa along with the No Claim Bonus carried over from your previous year. A clean year of highway driving works in your favour here.
Revisit your existing cover before you confirm. With Hexa spares getting harder to source post-production, add-ons such as Consumables Cover or NCB Protection can save you money when a claim comes up.
Settle the renewal amount online, and your cover continues without a break. You can also renew car insurance through the TATA AIG mobile app.
Note: If your Tata Hexa insurance has expired and crossed the 90-day period, there may be an inspection before policy renewal. TATA AIG will let you know if an inspection is required.

Why Insure Your Tata Hexa?
Third-Party Coverage is a Legal Requirement
If you accidentally hit a pedestrian, another vehicle or a parked car, you could be responsible for the resulting third-party compensation. That is why Indian law requires every vehicle driven on public roads to have third-party insurance. Driving without it can attract a fine of up to ₹4,000 and imprisonment of up to 3 months.
Even if it is an old, discontinued SUV, it doesn't reduce your liability exposure. Liability depends on the harm caused, not the car's value, and compensation depends on the victim's age, income and dependants.
Insurers also don't set the cost of this mandatory cover on their own. IRDAI determines third-party premium rates based on engine capacity. Since the Hexa uses a 2.2-litre diesel engine, its third-party premium falls within the applicable engine-capacity slab, regardless of which insurer you choose.
Cashless Repairs Without Paying Upfront
The Hexa's use for family trips and highway travel can expose it to bumper, alloy and underbody damage. As a discontinued model, access to good repair facilities can also be a concern.
TATA AIG has 6,300+ cashless garages across India, giving Hexa owners access to an extensive Pan-India repair network. TATA AIG also offers roadside assistance to help when your Tata Hexa breaks down or faces an unexpected problem during a journey.
Covers Fire, and Natural & Man-Made Disasters
Tata Hexa car insurance covers damage caused by floods, earthquakes, storms, cyclones, landslides, fire and explosions.1 These risks can be relevant for a Hexa used for family trips, highway travel and rougher routes.
The policy can also cover eligible damage caused by falling trees, hail, debris, riots and other covered events. This can help with repair costs when such incidents damage the Hexa’s body, glass or other insured parts.
Covers Theft & Total Loss
With the Tata Hexa discontinued, its ownership equation changes as the vehicle ages. If a stolen Hexa is not recovered, or an accident leaves it beyond economical repair, replacing it with an equivalent vehicle can be difficult.
Tata Hexa insurance of car gives you a financial exit in such situations, with the claim settlement based on the vehicle's applicable IDV. This can be particularly useful when the vehicle's market value, availability and repairability no longer align.

Tata Hexa Insurance -- Which Policy Do I Get?
Car Insurance Policies We Offer
Comprehensive Car Insurance
Full protection for your Tata Hexa, with third-party liability plus own-damage insurance cover against accidents, theft, fire and natural disasters. The stronger choice for a family SUV that regularly does highway runs.
Buy Comprehensive Car Insurance
Third-Party Car Insurance
The legally mandatory minimum for driving your Hexa on Indian roads. Covers injury or property damage you cause to others, without protecting your own vehicle.
Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance
If you already hold a third-party policy, this adds protection for your Hexa alone, useful for a discontinued model where sourcing spares after an accident or theft can get expensive.
Which Policy Do I Buy?
| Parameter | Recommended Cover | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Family owner | Comprehensive + NCB Protection3 | A 7-seater carrying family on regular trips benefits from full protection while preserving years of accumulated no-claim bonus. |
| Highway/long-distance driver | Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance4 | A breakdown far from home is harder to resolve for a model no longer in production. |
| Flood-prone location | Comprehensive + Engine Secure5 | Covers engine and gearbox damage from water ingress, a real risk given the Hexa's high-clearance, water-crossing-tempting stance. |
| Older Hexa you still depend on daily | Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance | Losing a car you rely on daily disrupts more than its resale value reflects. |
| Car bought second-hand this year | Comprehensive + Depreciation Reimbursement6 | A recently acquired Hexa still justifies broader protection while it remains eligible. |
| Rural/poor road surfaces | Comprehensive + Roadside Assistance | Rough roads and waterlogged stretches raise both breakdown and underbody-damage risk. |
| Hexa with low IDV | Third-Party | A low IDV can make paying for own-damage protection less worthwhile. |
| Accident-prone city/heavy traffic | Comprehensive + NCB Protection | Frequent low-speed knocks make own-damage protection and NCB preservation more important. |
For a discontinued Tata Hexa, the decision comes down to how much you still depend on the vehicle versus what it is currently worth. If its low IDV makes an own-damage claim less meaningful, third-party insurance may be sufficient. If the Hexa remains your dependable family or highway vehicle, comprehensive or own-damage cover can provide a financial safety net.
Tata Hexa Car Insurance Add-On Covers Worth Buying
Most add-ons have age limits. Depreciation Reimbursement and Consumables Cover are available for cars up to 10 years old. Check your exact registration year when you renew, as the earliest Hexas are nearing the cutoff.
So, here are a few essential add-ons that are worth buying for your Hexa:
Depreciation Reimbursement: If your Hexa needs parts replaced after an accident, this add-on pays without deducting depreciation. For a 6–9-year-old Hexa, Depreciation Reimbursement can make a noticeable difference to your claim payout while the car is still within the 10-year eligibility limit.
Engine Secure: Waterlogged roads can be a real concern during the monsoon. Engine Secure covers engine and gearbox damage caused by water ingress, giving you extra protection.
Consumables Cover: Accident repairs involve more than just replacing damaged parts. Engine oil, coolant, gearbox oil, nuts and bolts can add to the bill. Consumables Cover add-on covers consumables used during repairs and is available for cars up to 10 years old.
NCB Protection: Preserves your no-claim bonus (up to 50%) even after a claim. NCB Protection is worth adding if you have built up a clean record on a family car that mostly does predictable highway and city driving. This is eligible for cars up to 10 years old.
Roadside Assistance: Tata Motors' free RSA runs only for the warranty period, which has almost certainly lapsed on a Hexa by now. TATA AIG’s Roadside Assistance can be useful if you regularly drive on highways or take long family trips, especially when a breakdown leaves you stranded away from home.
Note: Add-ons are subject to the vehicle meeting TATA AIG's eligibility conditions at the time of purchase or renewal.
What IDV Should You Set for Your Tata Hexa?
IDV (Insured Declared Value) is the maximum amount your insurer pays if your Tata Hexa is stolen or declared a total loss. It is also one of the few numbers on your Tata Hexa insurance premium that you can influence, so don't choose a low IDV just to save a little on the premium.
Vehicles over five years old, or models no longer manufactured, don't get their IDV set off the standard age-depreciation table. Instead, it's agreed between you and TATA AIG at the time of purchase. This is applicable for your Hexa, as the Hexa went out of production in 2020.
For a very old Hexa model, IDV also decides whether holding comprehensive cover even makes sense, since a payout too low to replace the car isn't worth the Tata Hexa insurance cost you would pay for it.
The Trade-Off
| If You Set IDV... | Your Premium | If the Hexa is Stolen or Written Off |
|---|---|---|
| Low, to save money | Lower | You receive less, leaving a bigger shortfall |
| At a realistic value | Balanced | You receive a payout closer to the vehicle's actual market value |
| Too high | Higher | The claim is still settled according to the vehicle's assessed value and policy terms |
The Part Owners of Older Car Owners Miss
A car is declared a total loss once repairs hit 75% of IDV, a threshold that's much closer on a 6-9-year-old Hexa than a new car. For example, with an IDV of ₹2 lakh, repairs reaching ₹1.5 lakh could cross that threshold. A low IDV can therefore mean both a smaller payout and an earlier write-off.
What IDV to set on a Tata Hexa
For the Tata Hexa, comparable used models currently typically fall in the ₹6.5 lakh–₹7.5 lakh range, depending on the year, variant, fuel type, mileage and condition. Use this as a starting point when deciding your IDV. Don't inflate the IDV to match the cost of buying a replacement vehicle.
The Mistake to Avoid
If you are continuing with comprehensive cover for your Hexa, the IDV should reflect what the vehicle is realistically worth today. A very low IDV may reduce your premium, but it can also leave you with a smaller payout after theft or total loss. With TATA AIG, the IDV agreed at the time of policy issuance forms the basis for eligible theft and total-loss claim settlements.
What Affects Your Tata Hexa's Insurance Cost
Your premium splits into just two pieces that work nothing alike. One part, the third-party is set by the IRDAI and doesn't change no matter who you buy from. The other part, own damage is shaped by your car, where you drive it, and claims history, and you must understand this half.
The Fixed Part: Third-Party Premium
Every Hexa variant runs the same 2179 cc diesel engine, so the whole range sits in one IRDAI slab:
| Engine CC | 1-Year TP Premium |
|---|---|
| 2179 cc | ₹7,897 |
The Variable Part: Own-Damage Premium
| What Moves It | Why it Matters |
|---|---|
| IDV | This is your payout ceiling on theft or total loss, and the single biggest lever on your own-damage premium. Set it against the real resale value rather than simply accepting the default figure. |
| Variant | The Hexa was offered in XE, XM, XM Plus, XMA, XT, XTA and XT 4X4 variants. Higher-spec and 4X4 versions can have a higher insured value because of their additional equipment and drivetrain. |
| Vehicle age | A 2017 Hexa and a 2020 Hexa aren't the same risk. IDV depreciates with age, which brings the own-damage premium down, but also lowers the payout ceiling. |
| Add-ons | Covers such as Engine Secure or Roadside Assistance add to the premium but can provide useful protection for an older, highway-oriented Hexa. |
| City of registration | Repair costs and claim frequency both vary by RTO zone, so two identical Hexa cars can carry different premiums depending on where they're registered. |
| No Claim Bonus | A clean record reduces your own-damage premium at renewal, up to 50%. |
| Claim history | Past claims raise what you pay next renewal, separate from NCB. |
What You Can Do
Used Hexas can vary considerably in value, so don't blindly accept the default IDV.
If your Hexa has aftermarket accessories, make sure it is declared, endorsed and reflected in your RC.9
Confirm your variant (XE through XTA) is correctly recorded, since repair costs differ by trim.
Ask whether own-damage cover still earns its premium at your Hexa's current IDV before renewing

How to File a Tata Hexa Car Insurance Claim
Cashless Claim
If you had an accident, ensure your safety and contact TATA AIG. Call 022-6489-8282, email general.claims@tataaig.com, WhatsApp 9136160375, or use the claims portal, mobile app or branch locator. A dedicated claim handler will guide you through the process.
Use the network garage locator to find a nearby garage. The 6,300+ cashless network includes Tata authorised service centres. Pick-up and drop-off is also available for eligible repairs.
Wait for the surveyor's inspection and approval. Do not start repairs before this is completed.
Once approved, the garage repairs your Hexa and TATA AIG settles the approved amount directly with them.
Pay the applicable deductible, depreciation and any costs that aren't covered by the Tata Hexa car insurance policy.
Reimbursement Claim
After ensuring your safety, use the mobile app, claims portal, visit a branch, call 022-6489-8282, email general.claims@tataaig.com or WhatsApp 9136160375 to register the claim. Keep in mind, in reimbursement claims, you pay the repair bill first and claim the eligible amount back.
Have your Hexa inspected and get the required approval before starting repairs.
If the repair cannot be done at a network garage, you can use a non-network garage, and pay the bill yourself.
Keep the original invoices and payment receipts. Submit the required documents, repair bills and receipts. Keep in mind, missing or incomplete paperwork can delay the claim.
TATA AIG takes 7-days to settle the claim after receiving all required documents, with payment through NEFT. Your reimbursement may be lower than the garage bill because of deductibles, depreciation, exclusions and other policy conditions.
For the discontinued Hexa: Some genuine parts may be difficult to source. If the vehicle cannot be repaired, the claim may move towards a total-loss settlement, depending on the assessment and policy terms. This is why choosing a realistic IDV is very important.
